sovereign ear
Sovereign Ear is inspired by the concept of radio as a medium of anticolonial resistance. In 1959, amid the liberation struggle in Algeria, Frantz Fanon published L'an v de la révolution algérienne (A Dying Colonialism), which contained a chapter dedicated to the role of radio in anticolonial resistance. Working on the Whispering Benches project that explores sonic and auditory experiences such as voice, speech, sound, and music as mediums for resistance influenced to start of public radio. These phenomena will allow for a deeper investigation into indigenous conceptualizations of the sonic and what can be heard and understood.
Radio is a powerful tool for communicating with the local and global communities. Our aim will be to transmit knowledge and awareness through the translation of energy bound to its carrier air and the care.
So, SOVEREIGN EAR will work as an online streaming radio run by artists and interdisciplinary creative professionals to dive deep into generous listening-sharing-caring.
The project is inspired by Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung's curation for Documenta 14 Radio program, connecting many private and public radio stations to the global audience.
